The Missions Committee of the First Baptist Church, Troy Morgan, J.P. Rice, Sr., Gordon Summers, Henry Hurst Jr., E.J. Pearce, Lionel Musselman, and Ernest Forbes saw the need for a Mission Church in the northern section of Denham Springs, Louisiana.
In June of 1955 after looking at several land locations, they agreed to recommend that the First Baptist Church purchase a twelve acre plot, located at Cockerham Road and Robbie Street for $15,000.00. A donation of $7,000.00 was given back by the co-owners, Dr. J.A. Thom and Mr. Julius Smith making the total price paid $8,000.00. After the purchase was made, work was begun to clear a portion of the land for a building site.
The Hebron Baptist Church had completed their new brick building and wanted to sell their old wood frame building along with pews, heaters and chairs for the price of $1,500.00. In May, 1956 the Mission Committee recommended to the First Church that they buy this building. It was bought and moved to the cleared land soon thereafter.
Diligent workers moved forward with painting and repairs to prepare the building for services to be held in it as soon as possible. Many items such as two pianos, pulpit chairs, and hymnals were donated. A revival was planned for the week of August 19 through August 25, 1956 with Dr. D. Lewis White, pastor of First Baptist Church preaching and Bill Santo, music director, leading music. Services were held each night in the mission which was called Northside Baptist Chapel.
Rev. John Causey, the District Missionary, came and worked with the chapel until a pastor was called. On September 30, 1956 at 2:30 pm the Chapel was constituted into a church. This was a memorable day. Northside Baptist Church now had 102 charter members.
Soon it was realized more room was needed for Sunday School classes. On October 10, 1956, work began on an additional building. This consisted of two nursery rooms, six classrooms, and two assembly rooms costing $2,007.32. On November 25, 1956 the first Sunday School was held in this new building.
On October 17, 1956, a pulpit committee was elected. Rev. E.W. Brumback was called as pastor and began his ministry on December 2, 1956.
Daily Vacation Bible School was held beginning July 29, 1957 and ending August 7, 1957 with 139 enrolled.
On September 11, 1957, the church voted to approve plans drawn up for a new church and educational building. Church membership was 200 with 313 in Sunday School and 154 for Training Union. (The first service in the present sanctuary was on May 10, 1958)
